Work on Path of Lust continues. Over the past month, I've revisited a few aspects and slightly reworked the game's concept. Some plot holes I'd previously struggled with have finally been closed, and the logic of some gameplay mechanics has been rethought. Now all that's left is to put it all together, incorporate the ideas developed and successfully used in Saboteur, and finally release the new version, which I hope will be much more engaging for you.
So, what exactly is the game's concept at the moment?
Shana's abilities. First and foremost, I decided to remove the connection between Shana's primary ability, Force Seeking, and sexual activity. As you may recall, in the early concept, the ability was intended to only manifest at the moment of sexual climax, but this means searching for a suitable partner (and having sex with just anyone can risk losing your reputation) and all sorts of other things that could needlessly prolong gameplay. It also reminds me of games like Fallen Order, where for some reason the Jedi runs out of Force power after a couple of skill uses (wtf?..), and I don't want to do that. So Shana's Force Seeking ability will always work, but sex and orgasm will provide temporary buffs to this and other abilities. Otherwise, sex can still be used to achieve various goals (for example, seducing an Imperial captain will allow you to infiltrate an Imperial warehouse, etc.), but all of this will be taken into account by the reputation system, so mindless sex with anyone can significantly complicate certain quests for certain factions.
Factions. In the game, they will be represented not by clans, like in Outlaws (Hutts, Crimson Dawn, etc.), but rather by their line of work — mercenaries, smugglers, and pirates. Shana's choice of path during character creation will also influence the initial attitude of the various factions toward her. Each faction can give you various missions tailored to their activities—kill or capture, deliver cargo, steal, or sabotage, with variations, of course. The Empire will be a separate, fourth faction, and its missions can include all of the above, as well as some unique ones. Naturally, your ability to receive missions from representatives of each faction, who can be found in places like cantinas and gambling establishments, will depend on your reputation. To improve your reputation, you'll need to successfully complete missions. Also you can be achieved it by sex with certain high-ranking faction representatives.
Main character. Many of you have repeatedly asked whether it will be possible to play as a male character. Initially, a female character was justified by the plot, and with the new revisions, nothing has changed significantly. However, in my updated vision of the game, the very essence of the gameplay will change — Shana will no longer be the only playable character. Throughout the game, you will encounter various characters, both female and male, who can become your companions, similar to what happened in KOTOR. The game will also feature numerous non-linear quests, which can be completed differently depending on whether you're playing as a female or male character. Also, in some cases, playing as a character of a certain gender can significantly increase the chances of mission success. You can embark on missions or simply explore the world alone, or with one or more team members, and switch between them at any time.
Shana's ship. It was implied in the first demos of the game, but it wasn't there yet. The ship model isn't ready yet, but I'm working on it. The main thing is the essence. The ship is the player's hub, where you can restore strength and health, store resources, change clothes (yes, there will be missions with changing clothes :)), and craft and upgrade equipment. All your companions will also be located on the ship, and to switch to one of them or take them with you, you'll need to board. And of course, as new locations on other planets appear, the ship will become your means of transportation to these places.
New locations. Plans included and include Coruscant, Corellia, Kashyyyk, and other locations like, for example, Ring of Kafrene. However, the game currently features only one planet —Tatooine — since development began there. You still find yourself in the town of Mos Phalla, somewhere on the outskirts of the Western Dune Sea. There are also several settlements and other points of interest located nearby, such as the Krayt Oasis, Deanna's farm, the Hermit's dwelling, a Jawa's camp, Smugglers' base, Pirate settlement and others. You may have only heard about these locations in the game's early demos, but soon you'll be able to visit, if not all of them, then certainly several. And of course, as development progresses, more and more roads to different locations will become available.
Mos Phalla. The city has already been significantly redesigned. The main goal I want to achieve with this redesign is to leave as few empty buildings as possible. Every building, be it a house, shop, workshop, or diner, will have its own purpose and owner. In addition, the Governor's Residence will appear in the city's central square, occupied by one of the lower members of the Hutt clan. The streets will also come alive: residents and droids will appear going about their business, various animals will wander the alleys, and visitors from other settlements will arrive on speeders. City life will also change with the changing times of day; for example, shops and diners will be open during the day, and at night, they will be replaced by cantinas and entertainment venues.
Imperial Outpost. It will disappear from Mos Phalla. It will be relocated to the desert some distance from the city, become much larger, and acquire several underground levels, as well as be connected by underground tunnels to a couple of secret facilities.
So, these are perhaps the main changes coming to the game in the near future. Development is ongoing, and a new version will be released soon, allowing you to experience all the new features.
